College can seem hard, but there are so many resources available to help you. Below is a list of just a few of the resources that are available to you.
Understanding Our Online Learning Management System
One fear you may have is fear of the unknown with technology in the classroom nowadays. Watch the video below to see how your classes would be set up for you in your Canvas portal:
Know You Have Support with the Academic Success Center
Our Academic Success Center (ASC) is here for you every step of the way. The ASC covered subjects include math, science, writing, and computers, with an additional foundations area that helps prepare you for placement testing or developmental classes. The College has both online and in-person tutoring. Highly qualified individuals (most of them are instructors at the College) can help you with topics like writing, math, information technology, & science. Click on the links (ASC Hillsboro and ASC Arnold) to see the tutoring schedules. Computer labs are also available. For more information, please contact ASC Coordinator Patricia Lee at (636) 481-3439 or via email at plee3@jeffco.edu or in person in the Technology Center.
Online Study Tools to Help you With Studying and Writing Papers
There are a variety of websites that can help you study and assist with formatting papers. Below, are some websites that can help you by making flashcards, checking your paper for grammatical errors, and helping with formatting citations in your papers.
AEL is an excellent resource if you never finished high school and need help with high school completion, if English is not your first language and you need further help with the English language, and/or if fundamental reading skills are a bit of a struggle. Learn more about the AEL program!
Paying for School as an Adult
Just like students coming out of high school, adult learners have financial opportunities as well. To start, fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) because it is a requirement for most grants and scholarships. Apply for Jefferson College scholarships by filling out our application. You can also look for other scholarships that may be available to you by going to a reputable site like myscholarshipcentral.org or using a reputable resource like Show Me the Money. Look to the State of Missouri for some of their specialized adult opportunities such as the Fast Track Grant. Other ideas for financial help are to look into tax credits you may be eligible for since you are going to school like the Lifetime Learning Credit or check employer about benefits. Often businesses may offer tuition assistance or reimbursement.
Not Sure What You Want to Do
If you aren’t sure what you want to do, but you know you want to come back to school, the College can help you with that, too. The College's Workforce Development team has career specialists that can help you determine a possible career field. There are also online tests that may point you in the right direction based on your interests and skills. A great place to start, if you'd like to do this, is the Missouri Connections Website.
