The Facts About E-Cigarettes (Electronic Cigarettes)
According to the FDA, the safety and efficacy of e-cigarettes/vapes have not been fully studied. Additionally, it is not known if e-cigarettes may lead people to try other tobacco products, including conventional cigarettes, which are known to cause disease and lead to premature death. Here are three facts about e-cigarettes everyone should know:
1. E-cigs contain nicotine:
An e-cig is a battery operated (disposable or rechargeable) device that contains nicotine. The nicotine is turned into a vapor in the e-cig and then inhaled. The vapor looks similar to smoke. E-cigs come in all sorts of sizes and sometimes have flavored nicotine cartridges.
2. E-cigs haven’t been shown to be effective:
E-cigarettes are not approved by the FDA as a quit smoking aid. There haven’t been any scientific studies that prove e-cigs actually help people to quit smoking. For more details, click here.
Based upon these facts by the FDA and other health-related organizations, Jefferson College’s policy prohibits the use of e-cigarettes.
As an educational institution, Jefferson College appreciates your understanding and support in matters of health awareness and education. Smoking cessation programs and additional information will continue to be available through the college as a public service.
