Foreign Language

Studying a foreign language provides a multitude of benefits that enhance personal development, academic performance, and career prospects. It fosters cognitive improvement, cultural awareness, and better communication skills, making it an essential skill in today’s interconnected world.

Program Overview

Whether you decide to pursue a major in the Humanities, the Social Sciences, International Business or STEM, studying a foreign language is the perfect complement!  Jefferson College offers classes in French, German and Spanish. After completing the equivalent of 3 semesters of any one of these languages you will demonstrate speaking, listening, reading and writing proficiencies at the Intermediate Level as defined by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.

Credit for prior learning options are available for students who have taken French, German or Spanish in high school or who possess equivalent skills in these foreign languages. You may choose to participate in the Retroactive Credit Program or take the CLEP or AP exams in French, German or Spanish for college credit.

Academic Plan

The Academic Plan is a semester-by-semester plan for the full-time college-ready student. Part-time students should work with an advisor to customize the map to fit individual needs. View the Foreign Language Academic Plan.
