Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, is required to determine students’ eligibility for federal, state, and institutional financial aid, including grants, student loans, work study, and many scholarships.
File the FAFSA
The FAFSA for the 2025-2026 academic year will be available starting December 1, 2024 and can be completed at studentaid.gov using your 2023 tax information. Be sure to include Jefferson College’s school code, 002468, on your application.
The earlier you apply, the better. By getting a head start on the application process, you will be eligible for priority funding and make better decisions on how to plan and pay for your education.
Confirm Your Information
Once you submit your FAFSA, the federal government will process it and you can access your FAFSA Submission Summary via studentaid.gov . Please review your FAFSA Submission Summary to make sure the information reported on the FAFSA is correct.
Review Your Status & Awards
Jefferson College will receive your FAFSA information electronically. If we need additional information, we will send you a request for information. You can also check on the status of your FAFSA anytime in your MyJeffCo by selecting “Financial Aid” from the student menu. Once the review is complete, we will send you a letter indicating the programs and award amounts for which you qualify.
What Happens Next
Once you receive your award notification, you can determine if you need additional funding to cover your cost of attendance. If you need additional funding, you can look into scholarship and student loan options. Jefferson College also offers the Nelnet payment plan.
Once you are registered for classes, you can view your bill on your Schedule/Bill in your MyJeffCo portal. You will see a list of your courses, charges, and credits (pending financial aid and payments). If your charges exceed your credits, you will have an amount due that will need to be paid. If your credits exceed your charges, you will receive a refund of credit via paper check or direct deposit.
