Medical Assistant (MA)
Medical assistants play a key role in keeping a healthcare facility running smoothly. They perform general patient care and handle routine administrative responsibilities including the following: obtaining patient vital signs, taking measurements, administering oral and parenteral medications, performing wound care, assisting during procedures, labeling and processing specimens, preparing for, performing, and monitoring EKG, managing medical records, and processing health insurance.
The Medical Assistant program includes:
- Course consists of 400 hours of online instruction
- Open lab attendance bimonthly to practice technical skills with program instructor
- Clinical Experience of 180 hours
- Upon successful completion, students are prepared to test for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) certification exams.
